Junior Section News.
Our junior section continues to grow and progress following it's re-launch under Philip Hiley in 2018 with some major developments ahead of, what we hope to be, a full season of cricket in 2021.
A familiar face rejoins the set-up as A J Weerapulli returns as our head junior coach. AJ is a very well respected coach in the area and has a long association with the club. Many of you will know him and his daughter, Venus, who already plays in our junior teams. AJ brings great experience to our team of coaches and will lead our weekly coaching sessions on a Thursday evening. We also intend to run additional sessions with AJ on a Tuesday evening with smaller groups where he can focus on techniques and skills as our players develop.
Phil Hiley takes up the role of Junior Secretary and will continue to be point of contact for all junior matters as well as our Welfare Officer. As well as Phil our team of coaches include:- Louis Morton, Steve Hiley, Chris Shepherd, Martin Wildsmith, Dan Bates, Sean Kirkley, James Druce, Matty Atkinson and Adam Cullen. Five of the team have already achieved the ECB Level 2 qualification in coaching whilst a number of others are looking to do so as and when restrictions allow.
Coaching moves to a Thursday evening at Esholt and due to the increase in numbers we're breaking the evening into 2 sections. Our Under 9s coaching will be from 5:30pm - 6:30pm followed by our Under 11s and Under 13s from 6:30pm - 7:30pm.
As mentioned there will be additional coaching available on a Tuesday night with AJ working in smaller groups and there will be more on this as we get into the season.
We launch our 3rd Junior side at Under 13 age group and they will play in the Aire Wharfe League on a Friday evening. Our Under 9s are due to play Wednesday evenings and our Under 11s will continue on a Sunday morning, both playing fixtures in the Bradford League.
The leagues are aware that following the easing of Covid restrictions many football clubs are intending to train and play during the summer which will create availability issues for some children. As such there will be a flexible element to our fixtures but we'll keep everyone up to date as we go along.
Louis Morton is heading up the ECB Allstars and Dynamos programs as we introduce these to the club for the first time. Allstars is for children aged 5-8 and Dynamos for ages 9-11 and they provide a fantastic, fun intoduction to cricket. Louis will be running the 8 week course from May 8th with Allstars from 9:00 - 10:00am and Dynamos from 10:15 - 11:15am. You can book onto the courses via the ECB website here.
We are hoping to run a further program during the school summer holidays but more information will be released when this is confirmed.
You can keep up to date with all the information via our social media channels as well as here on our website and many of your will have been emailed details already.
It's an exciting time for our junior section and we can't wait to get back out there again, we hope you are too!
